So Italy was wonderful, and although I never wrote another blog about it, I journaled quite a bit in my leather and paisley books. The expericnce was not what I expected, but it was irreplaceable. I loved exploring each country, each culture, each hidden passageway and every shop. The people I met and talked with were each unique and I loved seeing things from their perspective. I truly loved the experience and can say that more adventures will have to continue sometime again in my life...I will go back!
My favorite food: gelato and chocolate salami, bruschetta
Favorite Italian city: Orvieto
Favorite European city: Prague, Barcelona
Favorite European country: Germany
Favorite weekend trips: Cinque Terre and Barcelona
Favorite tourist stop: gaudi and haribo factory and chocolate museum
Now I'm back. I was home for a month and half, and that was hard. I loathed the laziness and inactivity that I get into when I'm there. Having only lived there for a year and a half before I graduated, I don't have many people that I keep in contact with from there and none of them live there anymore. So that means no social getaways. I loved being around my family, but I feel like when you get past 20, being at home changes. You feel drawn to moving out and on...and any longer than a week you begin to feel the pull creating tension inside you.
The tension finally subsided when I arrived in CS on Wednesday. It feels so good to be home! And yet, where are my friends? Where are my roommates? Where are the hangouts? I've been gone for 9 months and now Aggieland has changed. It's moved on...without me. It's not like I'm forgotten, but I have to rework my way into its system, remember how to socialize, network, and interact. I have to remember to be a friendly Aggie, an interactive roommate, and a caring sister...in the here and now.
I'm looking forward to the semester and don't anticipate any difficulties with classes or roommates or finances. And I know once I get back into the full-swing of things, I won't feel as lonely or misplaced. I can't forget that 5th year seniorness is not uncommon in Aggieland. We are definitely the miniority (as I'm reminded every day as I shop at Target, meet cute guys in my complex, or even stop by Copy Corner and get help from the desktop guy)...they are all younger than me!
But alas, my roommates finally arrived today. And though I am in a new place and miss my old roommates and the old days of Aggieland, I'm looking forward to my second senior year, a semester of new beginnings, new jobs (hopefully!), and new perspectives.
