Bugs are taking over my apartment! A month ago my friend Chrissie and I were chatting in my living room when a HUGE water cockroach comes out of my fireplace....eek! I quickly had my apartment office schedule a bug spraying that week to combat further encounters.
And yet, last weekend it started with a mosquito. He came out of my drain in the shower and flew around. I tried to drown him, but was unsuccessful. I was even afraid to open the bathroom door for fear he would hide in my bedroom and wait to attack. But I was going to be late for work, so I pushed it from my mind. Later that night though he was still lurking...trickily trying to blend with a painting on the wall. No dice. Just like that, I smashed him and saved myself a red bump. One down.
Then, today in the shower...yes another bug. But this time it was a rollie pollie (sp?), what some of you may call a "pill bug". Now, a little known fact is that I really don't mind bugs. In fact, I've always liked bugs. I know that might be surprising, but really, as a child my sisters and I would create rollie pollie habitats in the backyard, and I even had an ant farm. Perhaps it's my compassionate nature, but I just couldn't let that little bug drown in the shower today. Perhaps it was because my sister and I killed hundreds in the backyard, trying to make them swim in their "swimming pools" we created. Oops. I was feeling so generous, after failing to attempt to save him and get him to latch onto my shampoo cap and be rescued to safety, I turned off the shower head and washed my hair in the spout, just so he could survive. Now I don't know exactly how he got there in the first place, but I am really beginning to wonder if the bug guy actually sprayed.
Just as I sat to write this post, a silverfish wandered by. Is my apartment really that dirty? I know it sounds like it. These aren't that old... Maybe they are coming out of hiding after hibernating in my moldy hurricane ike ceiling that was supposedly fixed. I'm really not sure, but bug lover and all, I'm really glad to be moving to a new place soon! Hopefully the mosquitos won't follow me there, though you never can be sure in Texas. I really think those little guys can signal my blood out of a group and fly madly in my direction. Maybe it's in the water?

I found the rollie pollie dead in the shower the next morning. :(
