Upgrade and Release

It's time.

My iPhone 5 has arrived.  Now it is time to roll into a new life.  Time for a new clean phone full of space for potential memories.  Time for a purge of old music, old apps that never benefited my life in any way.  Especially a time to purge old conversations, photos, and voicemails no longer needed.  A part of me is relieved.  A bigger part of me is forlorn.  I get nostalgic about everything, and this little iPhone 3GS has me especially attached.

It symbolizes my transition into the real world of the past 3 years.  It has been with me every step of the way, with each exciting text, each funny Words With Friends game, and with each and every call that lifted my spirits or made me cry.  It's strange to hold onto an object, something electronic and not capable of feelings, but I must acknowledge that the loss of the thing isn't a complete loss for me.  It's just a natural, healthy narrowing down of life into a new direction.  This new iPhone will be with me on many more adventures to come, I'm sure of it.  And now I'll be able to capture much better photos along that journey, thank goodness.

So goodbye old voicemails.  So long text convos.  Farewell old school music that I forgot to back up or that somehow ended up on my playlist mysteriously.

I am moving on.  It's finally time, and this time I will embrace it.  Goodbye iPhone Anita; you served me well.
