Why do we all love things that are shiny? I think it's because it reflects something around us. We love to see glimpses into something unfamiliar, but more than that, we love to see more of what we love. For example, when we're running down the street just after it's been raining, and we come across a puddle, seeing a reflection of the rainbow cast, we smile. Why do we smile? We appreciate the object being reflected and the fact that it's presence is doubly made known to us.
I believe that this concept also translates to objects that reflect good memories, conversations, and life changing events. It's why people keep photographs, wine bottles, mirrors surround homes, and why we stay in touch with old friends. They remind us of what God has done in us, through them and others around us. We remember God's faithfulness. And remembering God's faithfulness is one of the most important things, and I believe truly pivotal to staying afloat in a world filled with chaos. It's these reminders, either object or person, that evoke that smile once again, showing us that we're all in this together. (See the movie on YouTube "We're All in This Together by Hillsong United. It's truly inspirational and gives great perspective- though long.)
There is no where else I would want to be but in that place of joy and acceptance, and I'm so thankful to have so many to be thankful for as I reflect back on my journey thus far.
