A New Way of Life

So...it's official. My doctor has put me on a gluten-free and dairy-free diet for 3 months. Previous diagnoses by other doctors of IBS and annoying medications that make me either crazy or somewhat work had me seek another opinion. A women's specialist doctor focused on nutrition, I'm taking her advice to heart and am going to diligently try this new diet.

But...do you know how hard it is to avoid gluten and dairy items? I went to Whole Foods last night and bought a cheese free pizza with a rice crust and veggies along with a bag of frozen bread and dairy-free, gluten-free ice cream. I was not so excited, but the pizza proved to be rather tasty. I haven't tried the other items yet.

And...I forgot today and ate a scone for breakfast and a Chic-Fil-A chicken mini. No more of that. Then I had a Subway sandwich for lunch with swiss cheese. Bad idea. Now it seems most things are off-limits. No cupcakes, muffins, donuts, crackers, smoky cheese, Pistachio Almond by Blue Bell, Chic-Fil-A, gelato, couscous, canned baked beans, pickles, yogurt, or pasta. Oh my Italian restauranteer Fabio will be missing me...and I shall miss my Italian food.

However...I'm still going to do it. It'll be a good challenge to see if I really am gluten intolerant. She also had me add some vitamins: 2000 IU of Vitamin D and 2000IU of Omega-3.

I'm going to have to blog about it to keep track of my progress. Today my stomach is rolling. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and my willpower. Stay tuned!
