- I've realized the connection between what was broken and what communion symbolizes restoring, connects all the way back to the Garden of Eden. During the fall we were separated from God, separated from eachother, and lastly separated from ourselves. Sin entered in causing this tension. When we participate in communion, we are taking part in restoration of those relationships in every aspect of our lives.
- At my church, we take by "intinction" where we tear a piece of bread and dip it in either wine or grape juice. People in the community serve, and the words of blessing are said over the people, "The body of Christ broken for you" for the bread, and "The blood of Christ shed for you" for the wine. By ordinary people serving, we are able to participate in blessing others and feeling blessed ourselves in being a part of God's restoration of lives.
- A friend at my church wrote this beautiful entry on her observations: http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/well/resource/broken-for-you
- I've realized that we all feel the tug of the back and forth, not sure if we are worthy of taking or serving communion, but I think that what's most important is understanding that if we are journeying with Christ, we must hold to this: "The beauty of mercy is that it makes life unfair". We are forgiven and free, though we will never deserve it.
Praise God for that!
