Chocolate Days

One of my many weaknesses is chocolate. I love to eat it, anytime of the day. This past week I had a Snickers for breakfast. I often have heavy lunches and chocolate dinners. However, one day last week I had a mid-morning chocolate break at work around 10am. I was busy that day (read:stressed!), so I reached for some chocolate.

I knew this day would be extra hard, so I planned ahead by bringing some chocolate with me that morning. I didn't have any bars lying around, just some Scharffen-Berger baking chocolate, so I grabbed it and headed out. It was 65% cacao, so I figured it would taste just about the same.

It comes in chunks though, and I usually break it up noisily on the floor with a hammer or knife at home. When my craving hit at 10am, I was left to look around to see 1) what I could use to break it and 2) where I could go to noisily do this without causing too much attention. I didn't want to explain what I was doing if I could avoid it.

Fortunately I work for a firm that keeps so many samples, and I went into the back room to find an open table and brick samples neatly stacked. I grabbed a brick, went to town on my poor chocolate chunks, and walked out with uneven but delectable pieces of chocolate. It was just the perfect amount, and I was energized to finish my deadline.

During lunch I ran errands, over to volunteer at a nursing home, interacting with a few coworkers, then headed back. Around 3pm I headed to the restroom, and as I washed my hands, glanced in the mirror. There, just to the left of my mouth, tucked into a wrinkle, was a perfect brown dot of...chocolate.

Yes, I definitely had chocolate on my face for 5 hours before I noticed. I saw so many people that day, and no one told me. I laughed pretty hard at myself as I walked out, brushing away the evidence of my chocolate love.
