Finally, I choose to get involved in helping take care of nature, encouraging recycling, and committing to less pollution and waste because I believe every little bit helps. One of my favorite quotes is by Edward Everette Hale:
"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do that something I can do."
This quote still spurs me on today. I first discovered it as an 8th grader, and it really sums up why I am pro-recycling, sustainability, and pro-being responsible for taking care of the environment. I believe that each of us can be a part of the big project of taking care of creation.
I downloaded a really impactful podcast from The Village Church (where Matt Chandler is pastor and my sister and brother-in-law attend) a few weeks ago called, "Is God Green?": http://hv.thevillagechurch.net/resource_files/audio/200903271900DWC21ATAAA_TimPierce-MattSmith_CultureTheology-IsGodGreen.mp3
The first part is theology and grasping what the Bible says about being good stewards of the earth, but the second part had me nodding my head and getting so excited to hear someone (Matt Smith) verbally communicating almost exactly what I think and feel about the topic. He cares about being green because he is a Christian. Bottom line: God cares about the environment, so I should too. It's so much deeper and wider than that though. I really encourage you to read up on it. Never have I heard a church host a seminar and Q&A session on the "green" topic, and I think it's very thought-provoking and encouraging.
