I finally did it! I ran in the rain tonight. I've been craving it for awhile. A few weeks ago I had the urge as I walked into work. So much of me wanted to run out by the lake and get soaked, but responsibility won out. I went up the elevator instead. Tuesday I woke up to the rain falling, but my weary self would not get up until finally I threw on my running gear to get outside just as it stopped. I ran in the midst/humidity anyway, but it didn't quite do the trick.
Tonight was the most unexpected day to fulfill the mission, but it started to rain on my drive home. I was coming back from country dancing, stepped out of my car to go inside, and I realized I had my chance. So, cowboy boots, jeans, and dangly earrings and all, I ran down the sidewalk. I ran down the road. I ran under the trees and let the drops fall down on me, cleansing my soul. Oh how I needed that pause this week. Oh how I needed to stop and enjoy the water washing over me. As I sit here now listening to the rain, I sense this calm inside me. It's like God is calling me to rest, to pause, to be thankful. I rush around too much and have grown impatient. The rain reminds me that every now and then, every living thing needs renewal. Praise God I am renewed! I am ready to face tomorrow, no matter what comes.
