Running with Car Keys

Last night I decided I needed to go for a run, to continue my training for the half in August. It's been a battle to make this a consistent activity, but I've been better this week. I decided though that I needed to run 6 miles to catch up with the training schedule, so I drove over to the park, quickly stuffed my keys in my shorts' pocket, and took off. Now usually this is my routine, and each time I have to get over the exhaustion that tries to make me stop at 3 miles. This time though, when I hit the 3 mile mark, I had a different problem.

My usually convenient "mini pocket" tucked inside the lining of the shorts had somehow become ineffective. Instead of staying in it's place, my keys decided to slide out and down. Yes, that's correct, right between my legs. Now for those that are not runners, there is a lining inside of running shorts, much like the lining inside guys' swim trunks, so the keys didn't fall out. Instead, they left me in a most uncomfortable position, unknown to all others but myself.

Being stubborn and not wanting to interrupt my run, while also too embarrassed to stop and pull the keys out in public, I ran another 2 miles in this uncomfortable position, until finally I came up on the park's restroom building and popped in to remedy the situation.

I had to laugh at myself as I finished the run and headed back to my car. Why do things like this always happen to me?
