So...I totally just fell on the stairs after my black heel slipped from underneath me. I take the stairs in the morning and afternoon to give myself a bit of a workout since its four flights...but note to self, take the elevator when its black heel day.
Anyway, that wasn't what this excerpt is about, but I thought I'd add that in there since it made me laugh at myself once again. Today I am writing about the happenings of last night, a girls night out with some friends from work. We decided that a salsa night needed to happen, so we marked out a place and headed out. Now I'd never been out to this place before, much less this part of town, so I was a little uneasy at first. But I saw the flashing lights from the street, as this place was on the top floor of a 10 story building, and I felt better knowing where it was.
We met up in the parking lot and walked up to the place, taking the elevator...and walked out to a mishmash of people, with an instructor teaching the steps. Now I consider myself to be more than a novice, as I went pretty often in college. And usually I just blow off the lessons, but these people were funny and actually really good teachers. I feel like my basic steps improved because of them.
Now after a bit of instruction, the live band started up and we all stood around the dance floor watching the brave souls who had dates strut their stuff. It was ladies night at the place, free for girls and $10 for guys, so you can guess what the demographics were: 80% women, 20% men. After a few songs we got out on thedance floor and danced in a group, then having prooved ourselves, the guys came up and asked us to dance...I went on this 4 in a row spree with different guys, who were all pretty good. One partner and I even got filmed for a video they are going to air on the Houston Chronicle Spanish webpage...so I'll keep you posted if I'm famous soon!
Overall it was a great night of dancing, getting to know some girls from work, and laughing along with the joy of life.
